Whether a mere speck in the sea or a highly developed nation that’s home to a million people, the one thing you’ll find on every Caribbean island is a love for loud, pulsing music, brightly decorated costumes, and the kind of risque dancing you can only bust out once a year: we’re talking about Carnival, of course.
The rhythmic beat of the Gombey dancers drew me towards the big crowd that had gathered on Front Street. The special occasion was the first Harbour Nights event of the season and the Gombeys were the opening act in a series of entertainment sets lined up for the evening’s festivities.
