7 What to do

Think of just about any activity and Bermuda has it. For the keen walker hiking the Railway Trail is a great way to see the island and be at one with nature. Running from one end of the Island to the other, it has 35 different access points skirting along the coast and inland via some amazing scenery and historical sites. Bermuda is also a golfer’s paradise with a different course to play on every day of the week. The top courses include the Port Royal Golf Course and the Riddell’s Bay Golf & Country Club. But the island is most well known for its array of water sports from riding on the crest of a wave in a yacht or sail boat to exploring the depths of the ocean in a diving suit.

For all of your water sports needs, head down to Blue Hole Water Sports at Grotto Bay Beach Hotel.

Those who prefer the more cultural pursuits can visit one of the many old forts, churches, historical buildings and houses, museums or the Gibbs Hill and St. David’s lighthouses as well as the Bermuda Aquarium & Zoo, Botanical Gardens,  Arboretum and nature reserves. For an insight into the history of Hamilton take a walking tour with the Town Crier around the city or hop on a mini train to see the many sights. Sitting on one of the jetties in Flatt’s and admiring what must be one of the most beautiful inlets in the world as you watch the boats go by is another must do.

There are also plenty of hot spots for the late-night revellers from popular bars the Pickled Onion Restaurant and Bar and Flanagan’s Irish Pub & Restaurant to Friday evening happy hours at the Lemon Tree Café or cocktails overlooking the sea at the Veranda Bar & Terrace or the Sea Breeze Café at the Elbow Beach Hotel. Anyone who is up early enough the next morning can take in the remarkable sight of 86-year-old Johnny Barnes standing on the Foot of the Lane roundabout welcoming the traffic into Hamilton between 5am and 10am every weekday.
