Visitors’ luggage is often heavier when they depart the island thanks to local rum, duty free jewelry and other souvenirs. These items hint at the wide range of merchandise available on Barbados. Duty free goods make shopping in Barbados that much more affordable, and there’s a large selection of international brands up for grabs.
Cave Shepherd, the island’s largest department store, has a main branch in Bridgetown and other outlets across the island. The widest selection in retail merchandise can be found here, the majority of which is duty free, like crystal, cameras, cosmetics and perfumes, alcohol (including Barbados-made rum), gold jewelry and rare gems.
Cave Shepherd is also a great place to discover the wide offerings of the island’s arts, crafts and souvenirs. Such items can also be found at Articrafts in Norman Centre on Broad Street in Bridgetown and Pelican Craft Centre, a renovated collage of souvenir, art and craft shops showcasing Barbados talent just 10 minutes outside of the heart of Bridgetown by foot.
Sheraton in Christ Church, Lanterns and Quayside on the south coast, Holetown on the west coast and Speightstown in St. Peter are some other great shopping areas frequented by both visitors and locals.
