We stayed at The Crane resort for 8 nights in April 2012. Sadly I must say I would not come back, neither would I recommend it to people who is looking for 5 stars resort. My main concern was the service, cleanness of the resort and the resort visitors. Below are few examples so you could make your own conclusion. 1. Cleanness. When we first arrived we were greeted by a girl wearing white top with rather big stain. It looked like she had a lunch or was serving food and it was a red sauce stain. Thus, first impression was unpleasant. The entrance area and a reception felt like a bus stop. During our first ‘discovery walk’ we noticed some plastic glasses and straws were left on the lawn, and so as in the pool area. It also looked like it’s been there for a while. 2. Towel Card policy. The resort provides a Towel Card per person which allows you to get one towel per card. Please note there is no pool chair covers so you are expected to use one towel to lie on the chair AND to use the same towel after swimming. Moreover, if you do not return the Towel Card during your check out you will be charged I believe US$40 per one card. As a result, you are welcomed to sun bath on a wet towel and to constantly remember not to leave your towel. By the way, when we were checked in we weren’t given the cards so we only found out about this policy when we tried to get a towel beside the pool. 3. Service. Overall, Staff is amateur, hangs out with each other, being way too loud and way too relaxed. It doesn’t seem that proper training or supervision is provided. One day, after sun bathing we stopped by the Towel Booth to return the towels and get the lovely Towel Cards back when we were nicely greeted by the resort Staff: ‘how you doing, bro?’….we didn’t expect such an intimate level of greeting in 5 stars resort so were left pretty much speechless. The other example is having a breakfast at A’zure restaurant. After we were seated, the first item of my order was a cup of coffee. In some time I got my complete order except the coffee. It must have been at least 30-40 minutes. My partner was unfortunate to order freshly squeezed orange juice which was delivered only upon our second request, when we completed eating our breakfast. When we raised the question about our beverages we didn’t hear anything except: ’oh, she didn’t bring it to you yet?”…who exactly she referred to we weren’t sure since she was our waiter and even if there was an assistant waiter involved I would think the principal wait staff would oversee empty coffee cup during the breakfast. The beach area has a service booth but few Staff guys just hang out there instead of servicing the guests. They don’t help you to set up the chair or to clean it from the sand which was left by previous hotel guests. The chairs are left all over the beach during the day and the beach area does not look as 5 stars resort. Worth to mention - the chairs are cheap white plastic chairs. 4. Guests - the guests of the resort don’t seem to have manners or sense of style either. Azure restaurant considered to be fine dining. However, at 8 pm during your dinner you will be surrounded by people in beach attire. One night in the bar with live music we witnessed a group of guys, not sure if they were local or hotel guests. It must be at least 10-15 of them, all in the age of 15-25 wearing baggy jeans, t-shirts, hats. They showed up with bottles of beer in their hands. They were aggressive, drunk, and loud; they grabbed the chair with a lady who was a live performer (she was sitting on high lounge chair and singing), dragged her to the center of the bar and started to hop around her. It was disgusting and she looked rather scared. We left right away and when we got to the room I was happy we weren’t robbed or God knows what else. Where was the management of the resort or any kind of security? How things like this can even happen in resort that claims to be 4.5-5 stars? 5. The bed sheets are poor quality and the mattress is very hard and uncomfortable . If to ignore all the above the grounds are well built, the main swimming pool is lovely - deep and long enough for swimming. The location of the hotel is gorgeous, away from busy west side of the island and the views of the ocean are breathtaking. Few good improvements could make this hotel a gem considering the beach, the views and the charm of historical residence. « less

Just returned from a week at The Crane. What a wonderful place! From the moment we arrived we were welcomed very graciously. Brian, who helped us with our luggage and took us to our room, is a real gem. He was so helpful during our entire week and we were fortunate to be able to shake his hand and say good bye before we left. Our garden view room was very large and comfortable. We had ground floor and would have preferred an upper floor, but the room was still nice. Next time would request a higher floor. The housekeeping staff were pleasant and serviced our room efficiently each day. Everyone we met was friendly and helpful. We ate at all of the restaurants and enjoyed them. The beach is amazing. Well kept and the view is beautiful. The pools are wonderful. There is plenty of room for everyone to enjoy their pool time. We did take a couple of tours of the island which were very nice. Guest services was helpful in giving us ideas and setting up arrangements. Our experience at The Crane was fantastic and we are already talking about a return trip next year. Thanks to everyone at The Crane for this enjoyable visit! « less

My husband and I just returned from five days at The Crane Resort and we loved everything about it. Our garden view room was spacious with a large bathroom that had a jacuzzi tub and a separate shower, a well equipped kitchenette and a four poster mahogany bed.The were multiple pools to choose from with beautiful and comfortable beach chairs to lie on. The beach is stunning, though not huge, so don't expect long beach walks. The hotel serves a delicious rum punch upon arrival and if you are like most guests, you will end up drinking far too many of these on the first day because they are so delicious. The on site restaurants that we tried were very good, espcially Zen which served some of the best Pad Thai I have ever had. We brought cereal with us from home and bought milk and yogurt at the resort's general store so had delicious and healthy breakfasts in our room most days. The general store is well stocked with breakfast items, snacks, beer and wine and even soups and canned goods. Our experience with the staff was uniformly wonderful and we found everyone warm, friendly and helpful. That said, we had friends staying at the resort who ordered toast and coffee to their room every day and apparently it never came...ever! Their safe didn't work and a leaking air conditioner was not fixed though they apparently asked about it numerous times. So it just shows that everyone's experience can be different. Our friends agreed the resort was lovely but thought the service substandard. We felt some of the signage and finishes in the resort are looking a bit tired, but we felt everything was clean and generally well cared for. We would highly recommend the Crane, though it is a long way from many of the island's top restaurants so be preapred for long taxi rides if you want to eat outside of the resort. « less

A group of friends went out to The Crane to see the sunset and get drinks. The Crane is not situated to get the best sunset view and we knew that so were not disappointed. We chose the bar for the drinks venue and shortly after placing our orders a team of mosquito foggers set up their process sending heavy fumes and smog directly into the bar. We were just a much the losers as were the mosquitoes. Better timing perhaps? Or find a better location for sunset and drinks. Lesson learned. « less
