According to Trip Avisor this is the 284th review of the Sugar Cane Club. Of those previous 283 reviews, 260 (92%) have rated the hotel excellent/very good. I would put it in the excellent category. There are some other excellent reviews summing up the hotel far more eloquently than I can. I would make the following points: 1) The staff were very attentive and helpful 2) The hotel and grounds are beautiful 3) We stayed in room 115 and had a a view over the gulley and on several occasions saw a number of monkeys 4) If you want lots of action, this isn't the hotel for you. Most guests go back to their rooms by about 10.30pm 5) The menu can be a little repetitive but the food is very good and nicely presented. 6) Dress code for dinner is "elegantly casual" (no sleeveless shirts/shorts) and is in either Sandy's Chattel Bar and Restaurant or La Salsa restaurant in the main building 7) Whatever you do, go on the glass bottom boat trip run by the hotel to swim with the turtles. It was one of the best experiences I have have had 8) On Saturday they have a Bajan buffet in Sandy's Chattel Bar. This includes a karaoke session and I would like to apologise to all staff and fellow guests for my rendition of "Delilah" which will be remembered for all the wrong reasons 9) Wi-fi is free 10) We hired a car for 3 days ($218 USD) which was enough to see the island If you want a relaxing holiday in beautiful grounds, the Sugar Cane Club is recommended. « less

An almost perfect week and well done to all who made it so. Having been to Barbados many times we generally stay on the South Coast. This time we chose Sugar Cane because of the description and location - ie a place to relax, inland and North West. As we had planned to do very little the hotel was just the job. Previous reviews have described the helpfulness of the staff and the quality of the rooms, cleanliness and food - we couldn't agree more. We didn't have particularly good weather, indeed it rained most of the time, but this didn't detract from the overall good experience. The entertainment provided by the local green monkeys was unforgettable - most mornings one or two could be seen prancing over the rooftops and lawns but the main attraction was when two separate groups came together and had a bit of a brawl in the gulley (we watched from our bedroom window). We will most certainly be back..... « less

We've just returned from a 2 week holiday staying at the Sugar Cane Club. I agree with most of the other comments here, this place is very nice and just the ticket for a relaxing holiday. The staff are lovely, very polite and attentive and nothing is too much trouble. The accommodation is spotless and although we didn't think we'd need the kitchen facilities (all inclusive) we did find it useful for tea/coffee in the morning and keeping drinks cool/frozen for the beach. The tropical gardens are beautifully manicured and our garden room with a large terrace overlooking the gully was great for observing the monkeys playing in the trees. The glass bottom boat trip offered by the hotel (complementary) is excellent. The turtles are very friendly, only 100 yds or so off the shore, where you can swim with and touch them. A good selection for breakfast with alternative egg options to the standard scrambled eggs on the buffet if requested. The lunch menu is the same every day but there is a good choice with additional daily specials. The evening menu offers a choice of 3 or 4 different options for each course but it can be repetitive (menus recycled over 2 or 3 days). The buffet evenings are nice, set around the pool with lanterns and a steel band playing adding to the atmosphere. The fruit punch drink is delicious, really missing those since we came home. Roy is such a gent and makes delicious cocktails. Just be aware that this place is a little isolated and there isn't anything going on in the evening. They do have a steel band on the buffet nights but it does get repetitive and it finishes early. The bar closes at 10pm but most people disappear after dinner. It really is very quiet so not the place to be if you do want a bit more to do in the evening. Taxis are easy to obtain via the hotel but they are expensive. A trip to Holetown where most restaurants/bars are is about 40BBD each way. We went into Speightstown but it it a tiny place with nothing much there at all. We went to the Fishpot restaurant only 5 mins away and well worth the short trip, the setting is lovely on the beach in the evening. The hotel shuttle is good and we spent many days on the lovely Mullins beach. Cost of 2 sunbeds plus a parasol is 40BBD. The hotel provide a nice packed lunch of sandwiches, drinks and fruit salad to take for your lunch in cool boxes (included if you are on an all inclusive plan or at a small cost if not.) We had a car for 2 days and drove down the west coast road to Bridgetown and further onto Crane Beach in the South East. Lovely beach with white powder sand and a fantastic cool breeze (good for body boarding but not swimming). Public access is a little difficult but preferable to access via The Crane Hotel where they wanted 100BBD for the privilege of allowing us to access the public beach via their hotel even though we offered to have lunch there. St Nicholas Abbey is also worth a visit if you like historical houses (not far from the hotel). Barbados is very beautiful and the local people are lovely. This was our first trip to the Caribbean and it has definitely inspired us to visit again. Although lovely and very comfortable, the SCC was little bit too quiet for us and we would have preferred more options in the evening (it became a bit boring over a 2 week stay.) We would have liked to have sampled the local rum shops and to have had the option to experience Oistins on Friday nights but the location made this difficult without spending an absolute fortune on taxis. The Holetown area is probably a better location if you want more options in the evening if only for an after dinner drink or two with a change of scene and perhaps a little more atmosphere. A shuttle service in the evening would have been a great option if it had been on offer but maybe that defeats the purpose of this place.. A good place to go if you want total peace and quiet and early nights, you will eat well and feel well looked after.. « less

My first visit to the Caribbean and I chose a gorgeous hotel that serves wonderful food and has such great staff. I took my 19yr old daughter with me for a well earned break for us both. The hotel was great, nothing too much trouble for the staff and the property is so very clean. Although I've stayed in better rooms I was very happy with the spacious 'apartment' room we were allocated as it was so very clean ! I found the location perfect to relax, the hotel 'beach shuttle' is ideal and you're only 5 minutes from Heywoods beach and about 9 minutes to Mullins Beach. We would book the 9am bus and return on the 12.10am bus for lunch. A special mention for Sade (such a lovely person) and Natasha - Spa Manager. Go to this hotel...you'll love it !! « less
