Just got back from the Bougainvillea Beach Resort in Barbados. Beautiful grounds, great beach and nice big clean room. The staff were helpful and the guys on the beach were great. The hotels beach is small but the sand is white, fine and clean. Tons of waves everyday and the body surfing was fantastic. The location is good, walked to the Croton Inn for a nice meal and went to Oistins for fish almost every night (tried a number of spots, Uncle Georges is great and try the local baking available on the street corner). The local buses are crazy, but they are cheap and the people are friendly. We went everywhere on these vehicles, the ride to OIstins is 2 Barbados dollars and quick. « less

I agree with much of hwat has been written here. Well maintained, two nice beaches, great view of Oistins bay, short taxi ride for evening entertainment. But... I do not feel welcome here because the hotel does not trust their guests: 1) 18 House Rules 2) The library is locked (no first editions here) 3) You have to sign out a keyboard and mouse to use the internet 4) Officious senior staff (You can't smoke here to my wife when carrying but not smoking a cigarette, those shoes are not ideal when wearing flip flops in reception - didn't ask we were enjoying our stay!). 5) Can't charge breakfast on the last day as they might not be able to get it on to the bill before we pay it. Other points: The sea is fun for bathing, body boarding etc but not good for actual swimming. Pool bar is plastic glasses. Water's edge bar for a more elegant drink. Spa is more a beauty salon than a spa. Lack of chice for the cold breakfast and not always fresh. « less

Where to start? Firstly, a big thanks to all the Staff at the Bougainvillea, we had an amazing stay! I have been to Barbados four times and this is by far the best resort I have stayed at. We travelled as a party of 6 and had two adjacent studios. Both were lovely. We were just accross from the pool with an ocean view. Our room had a separate bedroom with a king size bed, we also had a lounge/diner/kitchen. We had everything we needed. The rooms were cleaned daily to a high standard by very friendly staff, the kitchen was well equipped, The A/C worked very well keeping the rooms cool. We also had a double balcony, one with loungers and one with an outdoor dining suite. My four year old son loved the place, he spent hours in the hotel pools and particulary enjoyed the kids pool. The hotel is on a beautiful beach and where we enjoyed walking, bathing and playing. All the staff were so friendly, particulary Dennis, Basil and Haydon. Everyone will stop and say hello and ask how you are. The location of the hotel is ideal, if you hire a car about 15/20 mins drive to Bridgetown, also just 5 mins from Oistins in the Car. Head down to the Fish Fry on a Friday night. If you're looking for a beautiful beach, popular with the locals with calm sea/waves then head to Enterprise/Miami beach in Oistins which is one of my favourite places on the Island. Whilst there try the fish cakes and rum punch from Mr Delicious. Back to the hotel.....we didn't try the restaurants and mostly cooked for ourselves, or ate out during the day. Two vans park outside during the day (Connie & Leroy) that offer local cuisine at very reasonable prices eg. BD$20 for chicken, rice & peas, macaroni cheese, plantain, gravy. The food on offer varies daily so you can sample a good range of local dishes. The hotel has a BBQ which you can book (free of charge) for an hour slot to cook for yourself The entertainment on offer is very good and the managers cocktail party on a Monday evening is well worth attending as there are some stalls selling local crafts. There were a number of weddings during our stay and I was concerned that this might lead to a lot of noise and parties in the evenings, but these all ended no later than 10:30pm so didn't cause and disurbance to the other guests. There was only really one negative and that is the number of cats at the resort. They are not 'pets' but unfortunately a lot of the guests treat them as such and feed them. The lady in the next appartment did this and we would get up to cat prints on the balcony and cat hair where they had been sleeping on the loungers and chairs. This would be cleaned up qucikly when reported to front. The hotel does need to tackle this issue and actively discourage guests from feeding the cats. They should also look at getting pest control to catch the cats, I know the guests may find it disturbing, but rather that than a bite or scratch from a feral cat! We had a fantastic stay and I hope we will be able to come back in the future! « less

I chose the Bougainvilla Beach Resort based on Trip Advisor reviews. The reviews were spot on. We stayed 4/30-5/05. The property was in very good condition and judging from the activities of the maintenance staff this is a priority. My room was 3211 second floor facing the ocean. The room was in excellent condition and the cooking utensils spotless. Check in was easy and hotel staff was great. The pool bar is great ( although it could use a T.V down there ) as were the bartenders Denis and Roxanne. I viewed some reviews about Lanterns' food and service being so so and this is not true. The meals that i had eaten there were great and the service was good.A definate must is Oistins. We ate at Uncle George's and for the price is was great. « less

Before booking the bougainvillea I made sure to do my research and read the reviews and that I did, and I wasn't dissapointed, I went with my boyfriend for a long weekend and my only problem was I wish I could have stayed longer, the hotel is gorgeous and the staff really go out of their way to help. One thing I will say is if you're younger there really isn't much nightlife at the hotel but the gap with all the clubs and restaurants is a five minute drive and I would recommend mcBride's and the Reggae Lounge. « less
